Via Lauretana Walk: six days from Siena to Cortona

A countryside trek combining scenic routes, historic villages and local flavors: the Via Lauretana walk offers two weekends of guided hiking for nature lovers and slow-travel enthusiasts.

What to expect

  • Dates: 10–12 and 24–26 April 2026.
  • Route: from Siena to Cortona via Asciano, Rapolano, Sinalunga, Torrita and Montepulciano.
  • Duration and distance: six stages of about 20 km each (approx. 120 km total).
  • Organization: free event open to everyone, professional guides included.

Practical information

Paths follow minor roads, white gravel tracks and trails across the Crete Senesi and Valdichiana. Participants may join for a single stage, several days, or the full route — at their own pace.

  • Meals and accommodation: self-catered or available at partner facilities.
  • Included services: guided accompaniment and the option to get the Via Lauretana credential stamped.
  • Shuttle: return shuttle available to bring walkers back to their start point.
  • Stops: food and drink tastings (Montepulciano wines, Crete Senesi beer, local cheeses) and visits to sites usually closed to the public.

Tips for walkers

  • Wear proper hiking shoes, layered clothing and carry enough water.
  • Bring a small first-aid kit and sun protection.
  • Check stage profiles and distances in advance to assess fitness requirements.
