Events organized by the Tuscan Archipelago National Park

For European Parks Day (May 24) and the International Day for Biological Diversity (May 22), the Park has scheduled guided excursions, educational activities and workshops on Elba and Capraia. These initiatives aim to raise awareness of local habitats, traditions and conservation efforts.

Main programme

  • Sunday May 17 – Isola d'Elba: "Walking through the holm oak wood to Torre del Giove"
    Hike along trail 259 through Mediterranean scrub and holm oak forest to the historic Torre del Giove, with views over the Piombino Channel and nearby islets. Meeting point: Casa del Parco di Rio, 15:00. Duration: 2h30 – Difficulty: medium. Free activity, reservation required.

  • Saturday May 23 – Isola d'Elba: "When aliens land… on the Dune!"
    Guided walk on the Lacona Dune to learn about dune vegetation and invasive alien plants. Includes a children's workshop and a citizen science data collection on iNaturalist for the "Lacona Dune Biodiversity" project. Meeting point: Info Park Lacona, 15:00. Duration: 2h30 – Difficulty: easy. Free activity, reservation required.

  • Saturday May 23 – Isola di Capraia: "Excursion to the Pozzalamone caves"
    Guided trekking with historical and natural interest in the area of the former agricultural penal colony up to the caves of Monte Pozzalamone, continuing along the "spring path" to La Mortola. Meeting point: CEA "La Salata", 11:30. Duration: 6h – Difficulty: medium. Reservation required; fee: €8 full, €4 reduced (children 5–12).

  • Sunday May 24 – Isola d'Elba: "The dry stone walls of San Cerbone"
    Trek in Elba's western side focused on dry stone walls, a UNESCO intangible heritage and key element of the Mediterranean agricultural landscape. Learn about conservation and restoration actions by the Park. Meeting point: Marciana, Cabinovia car park, 15:00. Duration: 3h – Difficulty: medium/easy. Free activity, reservation required.

Practical tips

  • Bring water, suitable walking shoes, sun protection and a hat.
  • Check reservation requirements in advance: many activities are free but require prior booking.
  • For paid activities, carry an ID for applicable reductions (children 5–12 years).
