The Cathedral Treasure Museum of Aosta is an essential stop for anyone wishing to explore the history and sacred art of the Aosta Valley. Located inside the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, it preserves an exceptional collection of artworks spanning nearly two millennia—from the 1st century A.D. to the 19th century.
A Journey Through History and Art
Opened to the public in 1984, the museum serves as a rich anthology of the region’s historical and artistic production. The exhibition route winds through the Gothic ambulatory of the cathedral and adjacent areas, offering visitors an evocative and immersive experience.
The collections include:
Among the museum’s most notable masterpieces are the Chalice of Saint Orso (13th century) and the Casket Reliquary of Saint Gratus (15th century). The museum visit also includes access to the 11th-century frescoes discovered in the cathedral’s attic—one of the largest and most impressive mural cycles from the early medieval period.
