The pink race is told off the road as well. For Giro d’Italia 2026 the project "Books in the Giro", promoted by the Bicycle Library Lucos Cozza, returns to pair reading, sports literature and cycling culture with the towns that host race stages.
Included in the Il Maggio dei Libri calendar, the initiative will turn libraries and cultural centres into venues for exploring the links between cycling, history and writing. The aim is to offer a cultural perspective on the Giro, from its 1909 origins to the stories that have reflected Italy’s social changes.
The Bicycle Library Lucos Cozza, founded in 2013, holds around 3,000 titles — books, magazines and materials on two wheels — and for years has organised exhibitions, school workshops and meetings to tell cycling beyond the competitive aspect.
"Books in the Giro" therefore offers a programme parallel to the sporting route: not only numbers and tactics, but narratives to preserve and pass on, with events spread across stage towns and collaborations with cultural institutions.
