FAI Spring Days in Calabria: what to see

On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March 2026 the 34th FAI Spring Days return, providing a unique opportunity to visit monuments, historic palaces and landscape sites opened to the public for the occasion. The event aims to increase awareness and protection of local heritage through guided visits and awareness activities.

In Calabria several sites and itineraries are available, from protected reserves to noble residences and small museums. Visits are often led by volunteers and the Apprendisti Ciceroni, students trained to present the history and distinct features of each site.

Sites and highlights in the region

• I Giganti della Sila (Spezzano della Sila): tour of the ancient woodland and the Casino Mollo, a property undergoing restoration and enhancement.
• Palazzo della Baronessa Scoppa (Sant’Andrea Apostolo dello Ionio): walk through historic salons, family portraits and a sea-facing loggia.
• Marina Regional Nature Reserve: protected dunes and coastal stretches, with routes showcasing local flora and wildlife.
• Molino Bruno (Montalto Uffugo): visit to the mill with demonstrations of grain processing and flour production.
• GIAS (Mongrassano): enterprise museum space focused on local food industry history, with an exclusive visit to the production chain for FAI members.
• Sant’Ilario dello Ionio: route among noble palaces, the Casino Speziali and the rural museum (access reserved for members).
• Strongoli: historic itinerary including the cathedral, noble palaces, the castle and the municipal clock tower.

Practical information

Visits are generally accessible with a voluntary contribution. Participating in the FAI Spring Days also helps fund conservation and restoration projects: registrations and donations collected during the event support the Foundation’s work to safeguard cultural and landscape heritage.
