On the weekend of 21–22 March 2026 the national initiative dedicated to cultural heritage returns, offering access to monuments and sites that are not always open to the public. In the province of Sassari three notable locations will be open for visits, each illustrating different aspects of local history, architecture and restoration.
Located in Piazza d'Italia, Palazzo Lombardo is a 19th-century building that embodies part of the city's identity. Recent restoration work has repaired facades and roofs, upgraded systems and brought to light interior decorative schemes.
Conservation efforts revealed frescoes and ornamental ceilings on the principal floors: some decorations show stylistic echoes of late-19th-century public interiors in the area. Specialists and local craftsmen participated in the restoration, balancing historical preservation with modern safety and functionality.
Visiting hours:
In Calangianus's historic centre, among granite streets and buildings, Palazzo Corda stands as a local example of Liberty (Art Nouveau) architecture with frescoes and stained glass. Built in the late 1800s as a residence and centre for cork-related activity, it retains richly decorated rooms with stuccoes, mosaics and painted vaults.
The building, owned by the municipality and being adapted for cultural uses such as a library, also preserves original service areas including a cellar accessed from an inner courtyard.
Hours and practical information:
Overlooking the stretch of sea between Sardinia and the island of Spargi, the Talmone Military Battery is a coastal fortification set in a landscape of granite outcrops and Mediterranean scrub. As part of a wider defensive network, the complex includes a barracks, gun emplacements, ammunition stores and an observation turret.
The site conveys the daily experience of the soldiers stationed there and the strategic function the battery held in past conflicts. Its structures are integrated into the natural environment, offering a clear picture of coastal defence architecture.

FAI Spring Days are an ideal chance to discover local monuments, learn about conservation work and appreciate the historical layers of the territory.
