The Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI) presents the Spring Days, a nationwide weekend of public openings for historic buildings and monuments. The 2026 edition features access to 780 sites across roughly 400 cities, with many visits offered for a suggested contribution and events aimed at promoting local heritage.
When: main activities take place during the weekend of 21–22 March. Some locations may require advance booking and certain openings can offer exclusive access to FAI members.
What to expect: supported by thousands of volunteers and the Apprendisti Ciceroni program, visitors can enter usually closed or lesser-known venues. A highlighted 2026 project is a themed route across eight regions marking the 800th anniversary of St Francis of Assisi's death, with dedicated openings celebrating his legacy.
The FAI Spring Days are an opportunity to explore, learn about and support Italy's cultural heritage: plan your visit, check schedules, and consider contributing to keep these sites accessible.
