National Donation Day: F. Miulli Hospital renews commitment to organ donation culture

On the occasion of the National Donation and Transplant Day, scheduled for Sunday 19 April 2026, the F. Miulli Hospital in Acquaviva delle Fonti reaffirms its commitment to promoting the culture of donation and managing the clinical processes required to enable transplantation.

The donation pathway, initiated in the Intensive Care Unit led by Professor Salvatore Maurizio Maggiore, is coordinated by the Team Donazioni Miulli. Activities include the identification, management and retrieval of organs and tissues from brain-dead donors, subsequently allocated to authorized transplant centers.

  • Units involved: Laboratory Medicine, Cardiology, Radiology, Pulmonology, Ultrasound, Pathology, Operating Theatres, Medical Directorate, Forensic Medicine, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Dermatology.

The donation event is described as an organizational stress test requiring coordinated effort and timeliness to ensure safety and appropriateness at every stage. The initiative also serves to raise public awareness about donation as a solidarity act that can offer life-saving opportunities to patients in need.
