International Jazz Day in Siena: events at Santa Maria della Scala

On April 30 Siena will host a series of events for International Jazz Day, an initiative supported by UNESCO. Activities take place at the Santa Maria della Scala museum complex, located in Siena's historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Key program highlights

The day combines educational sessions, exhibitions and performances, emphasizing international collaboration between music institutions.

• 11:00 – Presentation and press conference for the JazzAble project, featuring the Mayor of Siena and representatives from the Tuscany Region, the Santa Maria della Scala management and partner institutions: Conservatory Frescobaldi of Ferrara, CPM Music Institute in Milan and Senzoku Gakuen College of Music from Tokyo. The meeting will include a live link with the Bangkok Jazz Festival.
• All day – Exhibition "JazzFrames – contemporary interpretations of the Polillo Archive" in the Cappella del Manto, curated by Rossella Antonucci.
• Afternoon – Educational project with the Peter Pan Orchestra, led by Maestro Fabrizio Bai, aimed at young musicians.
• Evening (Sala San Pio) – Performances and original productions by Siena Jazz:
  • 18:00 – Trio led by drummer Kazumi Ikenaga with Marcello Allulli and Federico Giolito.
  • 19:00 – Miles Davis Songbook, a tribute to Miles Davis with a large ensemble conducted by Roberto Spadoni.
  • 20:00 – Requiem, an interdisciplinary live painting project with artist Danijel Zezelj and the ensemble directed by Maestro Marco Colonna.
