Europe Day 2026: Italy's programme

On 9 May Europe Day marks the Schuman Declaration and the values of the EU: peace, cooperation and participation. Across Italy institutions, associations and schools will host meetings, debates and cultural events.

• Rome: at Terrazza del Pincio (Villa Borghese) from 11:00 to 20:00 a "European Village" will feature institutional stands, family activities, music and public debates. The Campidoglio and Colosseum will be lit in blue and special openings such as the immersive "Experience Europe - David Sassoli" are planned.
• Venice: the month-long "Europe Festival 2026" offers talks, exhibitions and film events across Venice, Murano and Burano; the programme runs through 31 May under the theme "A space for democracy".
• Ravenna: the "European May 2026" involves schools, institutions and associations with educational events and activities aimed at young people.
• National and local initiatives: workshops and discussions on contemporary topics including artificial intelligence, peace-building events and ecumenical encounters. Many activities prioritise youth engagement and citizen participation in the Union.
