GIORGIO DE CHIRICO. A Timeless World — Castello di Desenzano del Garda
On view until 4 October 2026, the Castello of Desenzano hosts the exhibition “Giorgio de Chirico. A Timeless World,” curated by Giordano Bruno Guerri. The show explores de Chirico's work and the artists who together helped redefine Italian art in the 20th century.
What to expect
The exhibition brings together about twenty works by Giorgio de Chirico from public museums and private collections, alongside archival sketches and portraits. Highlights include:
- preparatory sketches from the Vittoriale degli Italiani for Gabriele d'Annunzio's "La figlia di Iorio";
- original photographic portraits by Claudio Abate and Mario Dondero;
- a selection of paintings by Alberto Savinio, Filippo de Pisis, Mario Tozzi, Mario Sironi and other key Italian artists;
- documents illustrating exchanges between de Chirico and groups such as Valori plastici and Novecento.
Curatorial focus
The exhibition examines the so-called “Return to Order,” a phase when many artists reacted to early avant-gardes by seeking balance, classical references and formal clarity. The project is organised by Il Cigno Arte in collaboration with the Culture Office of the Municipality of Desenzano and contributes to the local cultural programme.
