Giacomo De Luca in Lecce: "The Relic Body"

From 24 April to 18 May 2026 the MUST – Museo Storico della Città di Lecce hosts Giacomo De Luca's first solo exhibition in Italy. The presentation focuses on sculptural and installation works that address fragility, archival practices and spirituality through transformed everyday materials.

Highlights

  • Double Shell – sculptural installation (glass plate and eggshell fragments): a work about purification and rebuilding the self.
  • Untitled (Chair) – wooden and steel sculpture covered in a mosaic of shells: an everyday object charged with memory and suspension.
  • The Academic – dancewear and accessories coated with shells, myrrh and resins: garments turned into organic reliquaries.
  • Madonna – stone sculpture found and reworked: a meditation on ritual, belief and disenchantment.

Curatorial framework

Curated by Cesare Biasini Selvaggi and Matteo Scabeni, the exhibition is part of the Paesaggi Mediterranei program of Lecce Contemporanea Mediterranea. Supported by BCC Leverano within the Futuri Emergenti Italiani initiative, the project includes interventions in the Sala Marianna Elmo and develops as a city-wide, site-responsive program.

Themes and practice

De Luca's practice transforms humble materials—eggshells, resins, myrrh and found objects—into relic-like containers that document processes of purification and self-reconstruction. His background in dance informs works that read the body as archive, exposing vulnerability while suggesting aesthetic and existential renewal.
