The old village lies at about 810 meters above sea level in the Val di Sangro. By car from Pescara or Chieti follow the SS652, exit near Villa Santa Maria and continue toward Montebello sul Sangro. A final secondary or unpaved road leads to the access point with limited parking.

Short historical note

The settlement dates back to the 12th century and was linked to the Malanotte fief. Over time the name evolved into Buonanotte. Continuous landslides and instability between the 1950s and 1970s forced permanent abandonment, shifting community life to the newer Montebello sul Sangro.

Walking among paved alleys and roofless houses gives a strong sense of suspended time. Vegetation has reclaimed parts of the ruins, creating striking natural frames; occasional contemporary art works add a surreal touch to the site.
