Giacomo Balla at MART Rovereto

The MART – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto is presenting the complete Biagiotti Cigna private collection dedicated to Giacomo Balla. The exhibition showcases works spanning the artist's career: early divisionist pieces, abstract studies, preparatory sketches, large-scale paintings and tapestries.

Why visit

Collected by Laura Biagiotti together with her husband Gianni Cigna, this assemblage forms one of the most significant private holdings of Balla's work. On show are historic manifestos, textile designs and furniture projects that illustrate the Futurist concept of a total art and the long-standing dialogue between art and fashion.

Highlights

  • Large paintings and tapestries, including the imposing Genio futurista (1925);
  • Futurist manifestos and theoretical texts such as Ricostruzione futurista dell'universo and the Vestito antineutrale;
  • Sketches and embroidery designs that reveal Balla’s influence on clothing and textile design;
  • Decorative objects, lampshades and accessories demonstrating the application of art to everyday life.

Visitor tips

  • Check the MART website for current opening hours and visitor information before your visit.
  • The exhibition is particularly suited to those interested in 20th-century avant-garde movements and the relationship between art and fashion.
  • Read the room notes to follow Balla’s stylistic evolution from divisionism to his more experimental phases.

Note: This presentation at MART places the Biagiotti Cigna collection in dialogue with the museum’s holdings on Futurism and Fortunato Depero, offering a comprehensive view of Italian artistic experimentation in the twentieth century.
