Ghost Track: hidden contemporary works in Milan's Civic Museums

When: 14–19 April 2026. Where: Civic Museums of the City of Milan.

Ghost Track adapts the musical concept of a "ghost track" to the museum context: contemporary interventions are integrated into historic collections not usually associated with modern art. These presences are placed in unexpected spots, creating visual counterpoints and fresh ways to read the permanent holdings.

Where to find the works

  • Museum of the Risorgimento – interventions by Thomas Jeppe and Markus Schinwald.
  • Castello Sforzesco, Ancient Egypt Gallery – a sculpture by Maurizio Cattelan.
  • Castello Sforzesco Museums – works by Alina Chaiderov, Latifa Echakhch, Gina Folly, Hans Josephsohn, Matteo Nasini and Virginia Russolo across different rooms.
  • Natural History Museum – installations by Joana Escoval, Vasilis Papageorgiou, RM and Natália Trejbalová.
  • Sormani Library – paintings by Xiao Zhyiu.
  • Parco Sempione Library – installation by Alessandro Carano.

Practical tips for visiting

  • Explore secondary routes and display cases: many works are hidden in vitrines or along less-trafficked paths rather than in main contemporary galleries.
  • Allow extra time to inspect corners and transition spaces—ghost tracks reveal themselves to attentive visitors.
  • Admission: free for holders of the Milano Museo Card at the City’s Civic Museums. Check opening hours and any visitor rules on each museum’s official channels before you go.
  • To make the most of one day, map the venues in advance and use walking or tram connections between Castello Sforzesco, Sormani Library and the Natural History Museum.

Ghost Track reactivates the gaze on heritage, producing unexpected encounters between past and present. It is ideal for visitors who enjoy discovering hidden details and prefer museum experiences off the beaten path.
