Genoa applies for UNESCO funding for the Palazzi dei Rolli

The Genoa city council, following a proposal by Culture Councillor Giacomo Montanari, approved the submission of an application to the ministerial call for special measures for protection and enjoyment of sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

This funding programme supports actions to safeguard and enhance internationally recognised sites, including management plans, specialised studies, conservation works and promotion projects.

  • Management plans to ensure sustainable governance of the site;
  • Research and studies to investigate aspects that need further analysis;
  • Conservation and restoration interventions for historic structures;
  • Valuation and training initiatives aimed at younger generations.

The Municipality will seek support specifically for projects that deepen and promote the lodging system associated with the Palazzi dei Rolli, and for educational programmes to increase awareness of the site among youth.

Councillor Giacomo Montanari emphasises that the aim is to strengthen protection efforts while opening new research pathways on the heritage, and to invest in youth education. Participation in these ministerial projects is seen as strategic—especially in the year of the UNESCO twentieth anniversary—to position the Palazzi dei Rolli as a driver of positive social, cultural and territorial development.

The application is a practical step to secure resources for tangible measures on the ground and to support community-led activities that promote and protect Genoa’s cultural heritage.
