Genoa remembers the desaparecidos: MEI marks 50 years since the coup in Argentina

The Museum of Italian Emigration (MEI) in Genoa held a day of remembrance for the more than thirty thousand desaparecidos of Argentina's military dictatorship, highlighting stories of Italian‑Argentines with Genoese roots.

• Personal stories: the cases of Hugo José Agosti Vesco and Juan Carlos Campora were among those recounted during the event.
• Voices and testimony: contributions from Dora Salas Iantorno, Paolo Masini, Jorge Ithurburu and Astrid Patino Carabelli featured in the program.
• Civic proposal: Genoa city council has presented a motion to name the large stairway leading to the Albergo dei Poveri university hub after the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo.
• Memory and justice: some legal processes concerning the victims continue, including proceedings in Italy; the MEI promotes historical research and the preservation of migratory memory.
