Pi Day 2026 at Palazzo Ducale, Genoa

Date: 14 March 2026. Genoa marks the International Day of Mathematics with events aimed at all ages, hosted in notable historic locations: the main hub is the portico of Palazzo Ducale.

Program and venues

Organised by the Department of Mathematics (DIMA), the programme mixes outreach and entertainment to introduce children, students and enthusiasts to mathematical concepts, using the city's monuments as engaging venues.

  • Portico of Palazzo Ducale (Piazza Matteotti) — afternoon free activities: math games, large puzzles, Rubik's cube challenges and interactive stations. Approximate hours: 15:00–19:00.
  • Scientific treasure hunt “Find Pi, find a treasure” — three sessions: 10:30 (aimed at families with children), 15:30 and 16:30 (open to all). Free participation; booking recommended.
  • Aquarium AuditoriumMateShow at 21:00: an evening of mathematical games and popular science with interactive moments. Free entry but reservation is mandatory.

Practical information

Daytime activities are designed to be accessible and to promote historic sites as places of learning. Events with limited seating (some treasure hunt sessions and the MateShow) require prior booking.

  • Audience: families, schools, students and curious visitors.
  • Cost: free (some activities require mandatory reservation).
  • Tip: allow time to enjoy the monument, arrive early and follow site accessibility and safety guidelines.

The initiative is part of the international Pi Day calendar and uses Genoa's historic monuments as a backdrop to promote public engagement with mathematics.
