The solo exhibition by painter and sculptor Generoso Spagnuolo opened at Palazzo Ciccozzi, promoted by Spazio Indipendenza, part of the Abivet group. The show gathers works from roughly ten years of the artist’s research, blending painting, sculpture and installation within a contemporary take on twentieth-century spatialism.
Spagnuolo's practice transforms the canvas from a mere support into an active material: painted surfaces rise, expand and engage with the architectural space, presenting an ongoing "worksite" of artistic exploration.
The artist describes the canvas as a kind of "gravitational field" that concentrates sensations and emotions: the exhibition should be viewed as an open process where painting and sculpture inform one another. Spazio Indipendenza aims to enhance Palazzo Ciccozzi by hosting contemporary projects that create a dialogue between the historical setting and current artistic production, inviting both emerging and mid-career artists to contribute to the local cultural conversation.
For visitors interested in contemporary research that engages with history and place, this exhibition offers a clear example of how different artistic languages can coexist and produce meaningful contrasts within a historical venue.
