Why visit

This exhibition provides a coherent overview of Biggi's practice, contrasting works from different phases to highlight his balance between formal discipline and chromatic experimentation. It also presents lesser-known pieces that deepen the understanding of mid-to-late 20th-century Italian art.

What to look for

  • The experimental black-and-white sequences of I Continui, which probe rhythm and structure.
  • The colour surfaces of Puntocromie, where hue is treated as a field of investigation.
  • The Eventi — Guerra e Pace series addressing political and moral themes.
  • Works inspired by New York and the conceptually light Fleurs.

Short biography

Gastone Biggi (Rome, 1925 – Tordenaso, 2014) was a significant figure in Italian post-war art. Trained after World War II, he developed an approach focused on colour, light and temporality, participating in major national and international exhibitions and contributing theoretical reflections to painting practice.
