CELLA ArtGallery (Corso Marconi 2) in Santa Margherita Ligure presents a solo exhibition by Milanese artist Gabriele Buratti, winner of the inaugural "SANTA in ARTE" contemporary art competition. The show gathers recent works that explore the tension between urban environments and the natural world.
Born in Milan in 1964 and trained in landscape architecture at the Politecnico, Buratti has become a noted voice in contemporary figurative painting. His compositions often depict bleak, deserted cityscapes with sharp perspectives and a largely muted palette. Within these urban settings, prairie animals — zebras, rhinoceroses, giraffes — appear as emblems of nature's persistence amid human degradation.
A recurring motif in his work is the barcode, used as a critique of commodification: commercial codes that reduce people and places to items for identification and consumption. Technically, Buratti employs oil on panel or canvas and then abrades the painted surface with spatulas and sandpaper, producing layered works with strong tactile and visual presence.
This exhibition is an opportunity to engage with Buratti's vision and his commentary on contemporary landscapes. Contact the gallery for practical information and any parallel events or guided visits.
