The Magnani Rocca Foundation's Villa dei Capolavori in Mamiano di Traversetolo (Parma) was targeted in a night-time burglary during which three high-value works from the permanent collection were taken.
The missing pieces include artworks by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne and Henri Matisse. They were displayed in the French room on the villa's first floor and formed part of the historic collection assembled by Luigi Magnani.
Reconstruction indicates the perpetrators forced an entrance and carried out a swift, organised operation lasting only a few minutes. Surveillance footage reportedly shows individuals with covered faces, suggesting a professional group.
The theft affects one of Italy’s notable private collections, recognised for its European masterpieces and for hosting important exhibitions. The villa was hosting a major exhibition on Symbolism in Italy, underlining the Foundation’s cultural role.
