Fossacesia bids to become Italian Book Capital 2027

The municipality of Fossacesia has submitted its candidacy for the Italian Book Capital 2027 with the project “Le Macchine da Pesca – Narration, Sea and Community on the Costa dei Trabocchi”. The initiative seeks to combine cultural promotion, territorial identity and the enhancement of the traditional trabocchi.

• Literary festivals and author events;
• Readings held on trabocchi and events along the Via Verde;
• educational activities in schools and sea-related learning paths;
• reconstruction and use of the Trabocco della Scogliera as a permanent cultural hub in Fossacesia Marina.

The dossier presentation, part of the programme promoted by the Ministry of Culture, saw the participation of Culture Councillor Maura Sgrignuoli and Valerio Nardone, president of the association I Trabocchi, the project's operational partner. Mayor Enrico Di Giuseppantonio noted the bid is «an opportunity to enhance Fossacesia's identity and promote the Costa dei Trabocchi».

There are 31 applications nationwide, involving 92 municipalities; submissions will be assessed by a jury of five independent experts. The ten finalists will be announced by 30 June 2026, and the winning city will be proclaimed by 31 July 2026.
