History and description
Built in 1272 by order of Lucchesino da Firenze, the fountain commemorated the foundation of the city of L’Aquila, which, according to legend, was created by uniting 99 castles. Located in the Riviera district, one of the oldest in the city, the monument has undergone several restorations over time. It is made of local stone in two colors and consists of three rectangular basins into which water flows from openings shaped like zoomorphic or anthropomorphic figures.
