FMS Academy: six young trainees start placements in Siena museums

The Fondazione Musei Senesi has launched the FMS Academy program, initiating internships for six selected recent graduates. The scheme pairs classroom training with hands-on experience across the main museums in the Siena network, aiming to strengthen professional skills and ease entry into the cultural sector.

Program objectives

• Heritage interpretation: making collections relevant today through critical and engaging narratives.
• Museum communication: enhancing the use of digital technologies for access and promotion.
• Accessibility and engagement: designing inclusive routes and activities for diverse audiences.
• Sustainability: implementing management practices compatible with local environmental and cultural contexts.

Specialist training

The pathway includes one month of shared training with contributions from academics and professionals on digital communication, heritage interpretation, accessibility, sustainability and visitor technologies. The interdisciplinary approach promotes innovative methods directly applicable in museum settings.

The trainees: profiles and placements

• Letizia Gagliano (Asti, 2000) – communication designer, based in the Fondazione Musei Senesi offices.
• Denise Latrofa (Bari, 2001) – visual arts management specialist; assigned to the Museo del Paesaggio in Castelnuovo Berardenga.
• Giulia Mozzini (Montepulciano, 1996) – art historian with a focus on digital technologies; will work at the Pinacoteca Crociani in Montepulciano.
• Maddalena Postinger (Trento, 2001) – trained in painting and exhibition practices; hosted by the Museo Civico Archeologico e della Collegiata in Casole d’Elsa.
• Veronica Quagliata (Messina, 1997) – graduate in Art History and Cultural Tourism; starting her internship at the Civic Museums and Collections of the Municipality of Siena.
• Lorenzo Testi (Poggibonsi, 1998) – specialized in prehistory and archaeology; assigned to the Museo Civico per la Preistoria del Monte Cetona.

Duration and outlook

The internships are planned for six months, with the possibility of a six-month extension. The initiative aims to promote employability in the cultural sector through practical experience, networking with local administrations and partners, and the application of acquired skills.
