FMS Academy launches six internships across Siena museum network

The Fondazione Musei Senesi has launched the FMS Academy programme, activating internships for six recent graduates at leading museums across the province of Siena. The initiative pairs classroom training with on-site practice to strengthen professional skills and support entry into the cultural sector.

Programme objectives

• Heritage interpretation: use collections as critical, meaningful resources for contemporary audiences.
• Museum communication: enhance the use of digital technologies for access and promotion of collections.
• Accessibility and engagement: design inclusive paths and activities for diverse audiences.
• Sustainability: implement management practices compatible with local contexts and environmental and cultural sustainability criteria.

Training and approach

The programme includes a one-month joint training phase with contributions from academics and professionals on digital communication, heritage interpretation, accessibility, sustainability and visitor technologies. The interdisciplinary approach is geared to immediate application within museum sites.

• Letizia Gagliano (Asti, 2000) – communication designer, serving in the Fondazione Musei Senesi offices.
• Denise Latrofa (Bari, 2001) – visual arts management specialist; assigned to Museo del Paesaggio of Castelnuovo Berardenga.
• Giulia Mozzini (Montepulciano, 1996) – art historian with interest in digital technologies; assigned to Pinacoteca Crociani in Montepulciano.
• Maddalena Postinger (Trento, 2001) – trained in painting and exhibition practices; hosted at Museo Civico Archeologico e della Collegiata of Casole d’Elsa.
• Veronica Quagliata (Messina, 1997) – degree in Art History and Cultural Tourism; starting her internship at the Municipal Museums and Collections of Siena.
• Lorenzo Testi (Poggibonsi, 1998) – specialist in prehistory and archaeology; will work at the Museo Civico per la Preistoria del Monte Cetona.

Duration and outlook

The internships are planned for six months, with the possibility of a six-month extension. The programme aims to ease entry into the cultural job market through direct experience, networking with local administrations and territorial partners, and practical application of acquired skills.
