“Flash on the Barcolana”: Giacomo Garzya frames a Mediterranean Trieste

The exhibition "Flash on the Barcolana: alle luci della sera" opens on 15 April at the Sala Comunale d’Arte in Piazza Unità d’Italia 4, Trieste, showcasing the photographic work of poet and photographer Giacomo Garzya.

Born in Naples with Salento and Belgian roots and long based in Trieste, Garzya presents a selection of images shot during the Barcolana regattas in 2024 and 2025. Departing from the city's usual Mitteleuropean visual tradition, these photographs emphasize warm colours and bright light, evoking Mediterranean and post-impressionist sensibilities.

Curator Arch. Marianna Accerboni notes that Garzya's work is "a vital photography, suffused with strong chromatisms and light," offering an interpretation distinct from the darker, stormier visions often associated with the local photographic scene.

  • Dates: 15 April–4 May 2026
  • Opening hours: daily 10:00–13:00 and 17:00–20:00
  • Venue: Sala Comunale d’Arte, Piazza Unità d’Italia 4, Trieste
  • Focus: Barcolana 2024–2025 images with a warm, luminous approach

The show invites visitors to reconsider Trieste’s identity by highlighting its maritime character and a visual vocabulary more closely aligned with Mediterranean light and colour.
