Firenze Déco: atmospheres and creativity of the 1920s

Firenze Déco is an exhibition focusing on Florence's decorative arts and creative scene in the 1920s. On view at Palazzo Medici Riccardi from 2 April to 25 August 2026, the show examines the interaction between artists, manufacturers and international tastes that shaped modern design.

Organised by Fondazione MUS.E with the support of metropolitan cultural institutions and international partners, the exhibition offers a broad reading of Florentine Déco: spanning precious objects to fashion, advertising, and high-quality artisanal production.

Highlights

The display brings together emblematic works and objects illustrating the period's vitality:

  • Ceramics and factory pieces linked to renowned workshops;
  • furnishings and decorative objects in the Déco idiom;
  • jewellery, accessories and leather goods from elite circles;
  • garments, silks and textiles produced by Florentine ateliers;
  • advertising posters, graphic works, historic photographs and archival footage.

Artists and makers: the exhibition highlights contributions from designers, ceramists and creatives who advanced applied arts in Florence, showcasing the crossover between artisanal skill and modern aesthetics.

Context and themes

The project investigates Florence's connections with European capitals, notably the influence of the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris. It shows how local manufactories translated tradition into modern forms and participated in transnational exchanges of taste.
