The fifth campaign of the Finziade Project will take place on Monte Sant'Angelo in Licata. Fieldwork is scheduled from 27 April to 5 June 2026, focusing on a residential quarter that still preserves streets, houses and decorative features.
Finziade, known as the last Greek foundation on the island, is a key site for understanding urban planning and domestic life in the Hellenistic-Roman period. The 2026 campaign targets a residential sector with both permanent structures and movable furnishings, offering data on architecture, urbanism and material culture.
The project is conducted under the scientific direction of CNR-ISPC (Catania) and the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples (Agrigento). Field operations will be led by Dr. Alessio Toscano Raffa, in collaboration with researchers Mariano Morganti and Donata Giglio (CNR) and archaeologist Maria Concetta Parello (the Park).
Students and graduates in archaeology from Italian and international universities and research institutes are eligible to apply. Selection will be based on academic records and previous field experience. Applications must be submitted by 5 April 2026 following the instructions in the published call; selected candidates will be notified by 7 April.
Joining the Finziade Project offers direct participation in a significant archaeological program and hands-on training in excavation methodology. It is an excellent opportunity to develop practical skills and gain experience within a multidisciplinary research team.
