Fiavé and its prehistoric pile dwellings: visiting Parco Archeo Natura

Parco Archeo Natura in Fiavé, Trentino, preserves remains of pile-dwelling settlements that illustrate life from the late Neolithic to the Bronze Age. The park, together with the Pile Dwellings Museum and the archaeological area, is part of the UNESCO serial site Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps and provides a visitor route suitable for both adults and children.

What to see

  • Archaeological area: visible pile remains and the initial viewpoint on prehistoric structures.
  • Parco Archeo Natura: suspended boardwalk over water, installations evoking the forest of piles and five reconstructed houses (three open to visitors) at full scale.
  • Pile Dwellings Museum: collections of ceramics, bronze and amber jewelry, an unrivalled set of wooden objects, and preserved food remains that bring everyday Bronze Age life to life.

Activities and workshops

During the opening season the park runs workshops and guided experiences. Notable family events include a pottery-making workshop and a hands-on activity focused on prehistoric gardening and cereal use. Dates highlighted in the programme: 12 April 2026 and 19 April 2026.

Practical tips for your visit

  • Allow at least two hours to visit both the Park and the Museum; routes are family-friendly.
  • Wear comfortable shoes: the suspended walkway and outdoor paths require care, especially when wet.
  • Check opening hours and seasonal activities with the visitor centre or official sources before you go.

For archaeology and history enthusiasts, Fiavé offers direct access to artefacts and reconstructions that document construction techniques, everyday practices and diet in prehistoric Alpine settlements.
