Torchlight procession at the Partisan Shrine of Certosa di Pesio

Located in the mountains of Cuneo, the Partisan Shrine of Certosa di Pesio—one of Italy’s rare partisan cemeteries—hosts a commemorative torchlight procession for the 81st anniversary of Liberation. The event combines a public march with museum activities to preserve the memory of the Resistance.

Organization and practical times

  • Friday, April 24 – free bus departs from Via Roma at 20:30; gathering at 21:00 in the Certosa square, then the procession proceeds to the Shrine for the official commemoration.
  • Saturday, April 25 – the Museum of the Resistance opens with free guided visits to explore personal stories and historic sites from the period.

What to expect

The ceremony features institutional speeches and contributions from associations and schools: the mayor Claudio Baudino, students from the Chiusa di Pesio–Peveragno comprehensive institute, the Ignazio Vian Partisan Association and Don Cristiano Bellino. The official address will be given by historian Monica Di Barbora, who will reflect on the meaning of memory and links between past and present.

Practical tips for attendees

  • Arrive early at the meeting point on Via Roma to take advantage of the free bus.
  • Wear suitable shoes for a night walk and warm clothing; the procession is a walk from the Certosa square to the Shrine.
  • The event is family- and school-friendly; the guided museum visits the following day provide accessible historical context.

The Partisan Shrine of Certosa di Pesio is a monument of significant symbolic value: not just a memorial plaque but a site where memory is actively lived. The torchlight procession and museum visits offer a concrete opportunity to learn about the region, its people and the stories of the Resistance.
