Michael Festival 2026 in Monte Sant'Angelo: 7-9 May

When: 7-9 May 2026 • Where: Monte Sant'Angelo, City of two UNESCO Sites.

Michael is a festival that connects the historical, religious and natural heritage of Monte Sant'Angelo with community life. The 2026 edition, titled "The Gate of Heaven", evokes the Archangel's Grotto, pilgrimage routes and the 950th anniversary of the Bronze Doors of the Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel.

Program highlights

• 7 May: children's activities, tourism promotion events, workshops on the Sammecalère tradition and the launch of the "Gioielli di Carta" call; evening communal passage and vigil towards the Grotto.
• 8 May (Dies Festus): religious celebrations, Lombard encampments at the Castle, the conference on the 950 years of the Bronze Doors and Antonio Musarra's conference-show "Francis and Michael. Heaven and the threshold".
• 9 May: community participation day with the "Eight for Peace" initiative (bringing a stone), the creation of a community-based contemporary artwork curated by Vito Maiullari, and the historical reenactment of the battle between Byzantines and Lombards featuring Giorgio Pasotti (performance repeated on Sunday 10 May at 12:00).

The festival is organized by the Municipality of Monte Sant'Angelo with support from the Apulia Region and the Gargano National Park Authority, in collaboration with the Archdiocese, the Sanctuary and partner associations such as Italia Langobardorum and I Borghi più belli d'Italia.
