Appennine Festival 2026: culture, nature and renewal in earthquake-affected areas

The 17th edition of the Festival dell’Appennino – Inclusivo di Natura takes place from 3 May to 31 October 2026, featuring 31 events across 29 municipalities in Marche, Abruzzo, Lazio and Umbria. This year’s programme coincides with the tenth anniversary of the 2016 earthquake and aims to combine remembrance with shared planning for local revitalisation.

• Opening: 3 May in Amatrice with a hike to the Eremo della Croce and the performance “Rispetto Tour – le radici del futuro” by Federico Quaranta.
• Offerings: guided walks, performances, music, cultural meetings and promotion of local specialties.
• Claim: “A due passi da te” — encouraging slow, sustainable and participatory tourism.
• Goal: to counter depopulation and strengthen the economic and social fabric of the internal areas.

The festival will close on 31 October 2026 with a conference on the role of culture and pilgrimage routes in the recovery of the central Apennines. The initiative involves the Ministry of Culture, local authorities and communities.
