The Hearth: Art Starts Here project, curated by Fabio Maietta, returns to the Diocesan Museum of Caserta with Ex‑Sistere, a solo presentation by the Italian artist Massimo Lagrotteria (b. 1972). The show brings together paintings and sculptural pieces that enter into a subtle dialogue with the museum’s architecture, turning the venue into a space of emergence and attentive listening.
Lagrotteria’s work is based on accumulation and subtraction: layers of material, incisions that open passages, surfaces that hold and then yield. The figures he produces remain partly undefined, presences in transition that measure themselves against vulnerability while striving for balance. The process of coming forth from matter is the central motif of the exhibition.
The Diocesan Museum’s spiritual and layered environment becomes an integral part of the exhibition: its atmosphere heightens the formal tensions of the works and asks visitors to slow down, pause, and identify with the precarious equilibrium the pieces suggest.
Ex‑Sistere proposes a viewing experience focused on the fragile yet persistent effort of material to become form. The exhibition is suitable for visitors interested in contemporary processes where technique becomes revelation and where place and artwork enter into a reciprocal exchange.
Practical tip: verify current opening times and entry conditions on the Diocesan Museum website or official project pages before planning your visit.
