On Tuesday 7 April, coinciding with World Health Day, the Dante Alighieri Foundation and the Tropea Committee will host a conference at Palazzo Firenze (Galleria Serianni) in Rome focused on the scientific and cultural value of the Mediterranean Diet. Supported by the Calabria Region, the event brings together clinical research, local experience and public-health promotion.
The meeting aims to place Mediterranean dietary traditions within the framework of evidence-based medicine, highlighting benefits for the prevention of chronic diseases and the cultural identity embedded in local food practices.
The cultural moment is enriched by a work from the master Corrado Veneziano, whose painting “ISBN Tucidide, Il Mediterraneo, l'Ulivo” complements the discussion by evoking the Mediterranean as a shared space of nourishment and identity.
Why it matters: the conference seeks to strengthen ties between scientific evidence and local cultural heritage, promoting the Mediterranean Diet as more than a nutritional regime but as a sustainable model for public health.
