Dantedì 2026: Dante comes to life across Italy with events and performances

On March 25 Italy marks Dantedì, the national day dedicated to Dante Alighieri. Established in 2020, the celebration brings together schools, universities, museums and theaters to explore the Divine Comedy through both traditional and contemporary expressions.

  • Florence — The Accademia della Crusca hosts the “Prima Tornata Accademica: Dantedì” focused on Dante’s language, while the University of Florence runs seminars titled “An Idea of the Comedy.”
  • Rome — The National Etruscan Museum at Villa Giulia presents the themed path “Hell in the World of Julius III,” and historic libraries like Biblioteca Angelica stage exhibitions and digital trails.
  • Milan — The 16th edition of the International Dante Festival features performances, short films and youth-oriented programs in partnership with the University of Milan.
  • Naples — A university library offers an immersive experience centered on the female characters of the Comedy, with actors animating historical settings.
  • Bologna — The University of Bologna organises a Dante reading marathon led by the Department of Philology, alternating students and scholars.
  • Turin — Turin opens a week of events ranging from contemporary dance (the show “Dante per nostra fortuna”) to conferences promoted by the National Library and the local university.

Dantedì 2026 underlines Dante’s ongoing relevance in Italian cultural life: from academic debate to stage and digital innovation, the programs aim to engage new audiences with the linguistic and literary legacy of one of Italy’s founding authors.
