Palazzo Cipolla in Rome presents a selection of masterpieces from the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, on view until 5 July 2026. The exhibition explores the Habsburgs' role in shaping European taste and in assembling collections where art, science and power intersect.
Organized with curators from the Vienna museum, the display follows a chronological and thematic route across nearly three centuries of collecting: from the monumental architecture of the Kunsthistorisches to major schools of European painting and a dedicated section on the Kunstkammer, the Renaissance cabinet of curiosities.
Presented by Fondazione Roma in collaboration with the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the exhibition invites reflection on collecting as an active process that constructs political, aesthetic and cultural meanings—not merely an accumulation of objects. The layout highlights both pictorial masterpieces and the smaller, often surprising items that reveal historical approaches to knowledge.
Practical tips: check the Museo del Corso website for opening times and visitor information; allow at least 90 minutes for a full visit; read the thematic panels to better understand the historical links between works. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Austrian Embassy.
