The exhibition "From Picasso to Van Gogh. Stories of painting from abstraction to impressionism", on view at the Museo Civico di Santa Caterina in Treviso and curated by Marco Goldin, has been officially recognized as being of significant cultural interest by the Ministry of Culture.
The presentation follows a non-chronological route that puts different figurative languages and traditions into dialogue, from mid-20th-century American abstraction to the great masters of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism.
More than sixty works are on display, many never before exhibited in Italy, loaned from the Toledo Museum of Art (USA). The lineup includes important names such as Richard Diebenkorn, Mondrian, Albers, Morandi, Braque, Matisse, Bonnard, De Chirico, Modigliani, Picasso, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Gauguin, Cézanne and Van Gogh.
The final section, focused on Impressionist and Post-Impressionist landscapes, features a painting by Vincent Van Gogh created in the last week of his life, presented as a central work of the show.
Check the museum's official website for ticketing and opening hours and book in advance if possible: the exhibition has attracted high visitor numbers. Near the closing period a special theatrical preview dedicated to Monet, devised by the curator, is planned and will tour afterward.
Practical tip: confirm any special openings, closures or schedule changes before your visit to make the most of the exhibition.
