Regional Council week: culture and conservation at the Reggia di Venaria
Between April 6 and 10 the Piedmont Regional Council carried out site visits, hearings and committee work emphasizing cultural heritage protection, territorial development and sustainability. A key moment was the Culture Committee visit to the Reggia di Venaria and the Conservation and Restoration Centre.
- Scientific hub: a new facility is planned at the former Lamarmora racetrack area, funded by the Region with €2.5 million and expected to be completed by the end of 2026; it will house diagnostics and applied research for cultural assets.
- Programming and attendance: the director of the Consortium of the Savoy Royal Residences announced initiatives for the 20th anniversary of the reopening in 2027, including the exhibition “Regine in scena”. Visitor numbers are rising: over 31,000 during the Easter weekend, 567,000 total in 2025 and 285,000 since the start of the year.
- Cultural outreach: Regional Council President met Turin artist Simona Rodano, whose teaching method (music and theatre) is used in about 250 New York schools and reaches some 140,000 students, supporting cultural ties with the region.
- Legislative work and consultations: the Budget Committee approved bill 133; bill 124 on surveillance systems is under review, with a public consultation open until April 30, 2026.
- Community cooperatives and energy: the Third Committee updated the registry for community cooperatives to include energy communities, aiming to strengthen social cohesion and local development.
- Water management training: a hearing with Hydroaid highlighted free training activities on water resource management for students and professionals, with an interdisciplinary approach.
The week’s work highlights an integrated strategy linking heritage protection, training and local policies to enhance Piedmont’s cultural assets and territorial development.
