Choral Concert at Orvieto Cathedral: France and Italy United in Sacred Music

On 16 May 2026 at 21:00 the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta (Orvieto Cathedral) will host an international choral event as part of the Francigena Musica festival. The concert brings together French and Italian vocal traditions and highlights sacred repertoire within the cathedral's resonant architectural setting.

Programme highlights:

• Opening: Toccata op. 42 no. 1 from the Fifth Symphony by Charles‑Marie Widor, with the cathedral organ played by Maestro Francesco Cucurnia.
• Main work: Messe Solennelle op. 16 by Louis Vierne, performed by the Chœur de Meudon in collaboration with the Corale Francigena, conducted by Maestro Adam Vidović.
• Second part: key sacred pieces including Perosi's O Salutaris Hostia, Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus, Haydn's Tantum Ergo and César Franck's Panis Angelicus, featuring soprano Paola Staffili.

Local choirs participating expand the cultural network: Corale Francigena, Corale Fra Giovanni di Pian di Carpine and ensembles from Acquapendente, San Lorenzo Nuovo, Santa Fiora, Bolsena and Forlì. The project continues with further performances, culminating on 21 June at the Upper Basilica of Assisi.
