On Thursday 26 March 2026 at 15:00, the National Archaeological Museum of Chiavari continues its series on pre-Roman Italy with a lecture titled “The Ancient Veneti: Not Only Este”, delivered by archaeologist Benedetta Prosdocimi, director of the National Atestino Museum.
The talk will present the history and features of a dynamic Iron Age culture that established extensive connections across the Alpine area, the Adriatic, and central Italy. Excavation results, artefacts and research findings will be used to illustrate the emergence of settlements, funerary practices, cults and regional differences.
One of the highlights will be the discussion of the famous Venetian horses, noted in ancient sources. The lecture will also highlight links with Liguria, offering perspectives on mobility and cultural identity in Italy before Romanization.
The initiative is part of the outreach program “Stories and Museums of Pre-Roman Italy”, promoted by the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Liguria. The event is aimed at general audiences, enthusiasts and scholars interested in exploring the historical roots of the territory.
