Rome Foundation Day 2026: four days celebrating the city's monuments

From 19 to 22 April Rome offers a free cultural programme focused on its monuments, historic palaces and civic museums: guided tours, open-air concerts and neighbourhood itineraries engaging the historic centre and areas such as Quadraro and Casal de' Pazzi.

  • Main day - 21 April: at 17:30 simultaneous concerts by military bands will take place in several central squares, highlighting key monumental sites.
  • Bands and locations:
    • Municipal Police Band at Piazza del Campidoglio
    • Army Band at the Spanish Steps (Trinità dei Monti)
    • Navy Band at Piazza San Silvestro
    • Air Force Band at Piazza Pia
    • Carabinieri Band at Piazza di San Lorenzo in Lucina
    • State Police Band at Piazza di Pietra
    • Penitentiary Police Band at Piazza di Sant'Ignazio
  • Special visits to Palazzo Senatorio (21 April): access to the Aula Giulio Cesare with slots at 16:30, 17:15, 18:00 and 18:45; groups limited to 30 people. Participation is free but reservation is required.
  • Museum and neighbourhood programme:
    • 19 April - Casal de' Pazzi Museum: presentation of a comic about Roman prehistory
    • 21 April morning - free urban walk to discover the M.U.Ro street art in Quadraro (10:00)
    • 21 April 11:00 - exhibit "Constantin Brâncuşi: the Origins of the Infinite" at the Trajan Markets and a visit to the Pietro Canonica Museum
    • 21 April afternoon - Giovanni Barracco Museum of Ancient Sculpture (15:30); Gallery of Modern Art - "GAM 100" event (16:30); Museum of Rome in Trastevere with photographic works (18:00)
    • 22 April 16:00 - closing visit "Living in Rome: squares, festivals and trades" at the Museum of Rome in Palazzo Braschi

Practical information: events and visits are free unless otherwise stated. Access to the Civic Museums is free with a ticket; admission is free for residents of Rome and the Metropolitan City. Reservations for Palazzo Senatorio visits are required by calling 060608 starting from 17 April.

This dispersed programme is a chance to rediscover Rome's monumental heritage through accessible routes and activities designed for both residents and visitors.
