Cecilia Vicuña at Castello di Rivoli: «El glaciar ido»

When: from 29/04/2026 to 20/09/2026
Where: Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Piazzale Mafalda di Savoia 2, Rivoli (TO), Italy

Castello di Rivoli presents El glaciar ido, the artist, poet and activist Cecilia Vicuña’s first solo museum exhibition in Italy. Installed in the Manica Lunga, the show offers a multisensory route that brings together indigenous memory, feminist practices and reflections on environmental transformation.

Main work and materials

The centerpiece is a newly conceived monumental work for the third floor: quipu acostado, a horizontal suspended installation that reinterprets the Andean system of knots and cords using raw wools and fabrics. The piece evokes geological time and the shifting nature of wind, water and glaciers, underlining human fragility in the landscape.

Artistic approach and local engagement

Vicuña employs ephemeral materials and objects gathered on-site, defining her method as Arte Precario. The exhibition includes textiles, woven installations, sound recordings, video and poetry created specifically for this project.

The project stems from collaboration with local communities: natural fragments collected along the Dora Riparia and the lakes of Avigliana — stones, wood, feathers and shells — are integrated into the works to create a direct connection between the museum and the Susa Valley landscape.

Publication and further reading

The exhibition is accompanied by a monographic volume documenting the intervention and exploring the themes addressed by the artist, recommended for visitors who wish to deepen their understanding of the environmental and cultural topics presented.
