Monuments Open in Sassari: 48 sites visitable on 2–3 May 2026

Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 May 2026 Sassari hosts a weekend dedicated to its cultural heritage, with 48 sites—churches, historic palaces, museums and natural areas—open to the public. The program includes themed routes, guided tours and outdoor activities aimed at families, students and heritage enthusiasts.

New openings and reopenings

• Seven venues open for the first time during the event, including Teatro Verdi, the university Botanical Garden and the Accademia di Belle Arti "Mario Sironi".
• Significant reopenings: Parco di Monserrato and, after 12 years, the Barbacane of the Aragonese Castle.

Themed routes

The sites are grouped into four routes to help visitors plan their visits:

• Heart of the historic center: Ducal Palace, Cathedral of San Nicola, Duke's Rooms and Cellars, Diocesan Historical Archive and other central locations.
• Inside the walls: main churches, Rosello Fountain, Palazzo d'Usini, Barbacane of the Castle and institutional spaces.
• Beyond the walls: Teatro Verdi, Museum of the Sassari Brigade, University Library, Santa Maria di Betlem museum complex.
• City and territory — history and nature: Piandanna Botanical Garden, Ex Convent of San Pietro in Silki, Argentiera Mine and peripheral sites.

Itineraries and outdoor activities

The program includes six itineraries across the territory, mixing naturalistic and historical proposals:

• Coastal route of Argentiera (Sunday 3 May) – booking required, medium-high difficulty, led by environmental guides.
• Walks along the ancient city walls and visits to Liberty-style villas in the Cappuccini district.
• Excursion to Lake Baratz (Saturday 2 May) – booking required.
• Rural routes with the CAI (Sunday 3 May).

Events, exhibitions and inauguration

The official opening is scheduled for Saturday 2 May at 16:15 in Piazza Castello, featuring city officials and the Conservatory Marching Band. The program includes more than 40 events—concerts, workshops and themed visits—and about 10 temporary exhibitions, including one at Padiglione Tavolara.

Guided visits and school involvement

Many tours are led by local guides and students, offering a chance for the educational community to actively engage with local cultural assets.
