Castrum Novum reopened by GATC

The Gruppo Archeologico del Territorio Cerite (GATC) has completed maintenance operations that make the Castrum Novum archaeological area accessible again. Volunteer work improved site safety and accessibility, allowing public visits and educational activities to resume.

Work carried out

  • Removal of winter coverings and cleaning of exposed areas;
  • Vegetation clearance to reveal excavation fronts and pathways;
  • Restoration of access routes to enhance visitor safety;
  • Support for ongoing research activities and archaeological investigations.

Education and partnerships

Thanks to the volunteers' commitment, Castrum Novum is again an educational resource: pupils from the "Vignacce" school in Santa Marinella, together with Spanish students involved in an exchange, recently explored the excavations. Activities are carried out in cooperation with the Polo Museale Civico to improve accessibility and site promotion.
