San Casciano dei Bagni: new agreement to enhance the Bagno Grande archaeological area

The Tuscany Region has approved a new agreement framework involving the Region, the Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of San Casciano dei Bagni and the University for Foreigners of Siena. The plan aims to strengthen research, protection and public access to the Bagno Grande archaeological site, continuing efforts started in 2022.

  • Heritage protection: measures to preserve recovered artifacts and plan long-term interventions.
  • Research and excavations: continuation of archaeological campaigns and studies of the Etruscan-Roman sanctuary in the area.
  • Management model: establishment of a participatory foundation to ensure integrated, stable and professional governance.
  • Cultural infrastructure: project for the setup and management of the archaeological area and a museum for the finds.
  • International hub: creation of a research center to foster scientific collaboration and international valorization of local heritage.

Funding: currently the agreement does not imply immediate direct charges to the regional budget; any contributions to the future foundation will be determined in subsequent acts and feasibility checks.

Location: Via Bagno Grande, 53040 San Casciano dei Bagni (SI), Italy. Coordinates: 42.871617, 11.8738469.

The agreement intends to combine specialized research, cultural promotion and sustainable development, opening opportunities for public visits, scientific activities and enhanced cultural use. For updates on openings and programs, consult the official channels of the Municipality and the institutions involved.
