The Museo di Castelvecchio in Verona celebrates 100 years since its opening (25 April 1926) with a thematic exhibition and a series of events that trace the museum's museographic development up to Carlo Scarpa's projects.
“A museum, a statue. From the 1926 display to the Cangrande according to Carlo Scarpa” is the thematic route open throughout the centenary period. The itinerary uses panels, archival photographs, film footage and audio guides to highlight the relationship between art, architecture and display. For one year the museum also exhibits two notable examples of late‑15th‑century Venetian wooden sculpture: the relief of Saint Peter Martyr and the sculpture known as Virgilio or Saint John the Evangelist.
Guided tours require prior reservation and must be booked by the day before. To reserve, contact the Educational Secretariat of the Civic Museums of Verona:
Up‑to‑date ticketing and visitor information are available on the official sites: museodicastelvecchio.comune.verona.it and museiverona.com.
The centenary allows visitors to retrace the museum’s history—from a Scaliger residence transformed into a civic museum to influential exhibition practices—and to appreciate works displayed in close dialogue with the architectural setting.
