Carla Accardi in Foggia: a journey through Italian abstraction

Beginning 11 April 2026, the Galleria Contemporanea in Foggia stages a monographic exhibition dedicated to Carla Accardi, a central figure in postwar Italian abstraction and an influential voice in early Italian feminism. The show gathers works produced between the 1950s and the early 2000s, presenting a comprehensive overview of her artistic development.

  • Location: Galleria Contemporanea, Foggia
  • Dates: 11 April 2026 – 20 May 2026
  • Works on display: approximately 20 pieces including casein paintings, drawings and the iconic "sicofoil" panels
  • Curator: Giuseppe Benvenuto
  • Why visit: the exhibition highlights material and spatial experiments, with plastic supports that engage actively with the exhibition space

A distinctive feature of the show is the presence of sicofoils, semi-rigid transparent plastic supports that Accardi used instead of traditional canvases: woven on frames and painted, these surfaces reflect light and establish a dynamic dialogue between artwork and environment.

The curator emphasizes Accardi's painting as a process of formal evolution and a deeply personal visual language, oscillating between fragmented geometry and rhythmic color. The selection spans early abstract works and later material experiments, enabling a layered reading of her practice.

Practical info: the exhibition is on view until 20 May 2026. For visiting hours, entry conditions and any related events, please contact the Galleria Contemporanea in Foggia or consult the gallery's official channels.
