Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2028: call published

The Ministry of Culture has published the call for the title of Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2028, aimed at identifying and supporting urban contexts that are most active in promoting visual arts and using culture for urban regeneration.

Municipalities may apply individually or in aggregated forms by submitting a dossier outlining the cultural project, planned regeneration or enhancement of spaces for contemporary art, governance model, and economic, financial and socio-cultural sustainability.

• Application deadline: 15 June 2026 (submissions only via PEC to [email protected] and [email protected]).
• Selection: a jury of five independent experts will select up to five finalist cities by 15 September 2026.
• Public hearing: scheduled by 15 October 2026 for finalist municipalities.
• Final recommendation: the Jury will indicate to the Minister of Culture the most suitable candidacy by 30 October 2026.
• Grant to the winner: €1,000,000 to implement the activities included in the application dossier.
