Calabria launches Eco‑Schools with €1.2 million investment

The Calabria Region has signed a protocol with the Regional School Office (USR) and FEE Italy ETS to implement the international Eco‑Schools programme in all regional schools. Funded with €1.2 million from the PR Calabria FESR FSE+ 2021-2027 (Action 2.6.1), the initiative covers participation and training costs for four years, with no financial burden on schools.

The plan aims to integrate environmental education, sustainable management of school spaces and active student involvement, creating a stable regional network of schools committed to sustainability.

• Partners: Calabria Region, Regional School Office (USR), FEE Italy ETS and regional officials.
• Covered activities: programme enrollment, teacher and student training, technical support and steps toward the Green Flag certification.

Authorities highlight the educational and employment potential of the project: besides promoting better environmental practices in schools, the programme is designed to build green skills relevant to the labour market and enhance the region's profile in sustainable tourism.

Eco‑Schools includes monitoring and international recognition (the Green Flag) for schools that complete the pathway. The Region's objective is to educate a generation prepared to lead the ecological transition in Calabria.
